Fabric and sewing have been a part of Wendy Butler Berns’ life for more than 45 years.  Since 1993, Wendy has been capturing the world in quilts. Her quilting style ranges from traditional-with-a-twist to contemporary art. She often uses nature and real-life settings in photographs as her inspiration. Wendy’s quilts tell stories of people, places, and journeys that have shaped her life. Finding a way to interpret the messages from these stories has given her the chance to create original textural images that she can share with others.

Since 1997, Wendy has traveled the country teaching and lecturing at national quilt conventions, quilting guilds, and quilting retreats. Wendy strives to share her extraordinary art with anyone who wishes to learn it. Far from hiding her “trade secrets,” Wendy hopes that her techniques, gained from hours of trial and error, will aid others in creating their own personal quilt treasures.

Wendy’s work appears regularly in publications such as American Quilter, Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine, Quilting Arts Magazine, The Quilting Quarterly, and Love of Quilting. Books featuring her work include The Ultimate Log Cabin Quilt Book, The Bear’s Paw: New Quilts from Old Favorites, and MasterPieces—Imagine That! She has produced quilts for galleries, juried shows, and private collections across the country.

When she isn’t quilting, Wendy enjoys participating in several art quilt groups and her local arts alliance in Lake Mills, Wisconsin. She loves gardening, running, and cycling the back roads of Wisconsin with her husband Tom and her three children.
