Jamie began quilting in 1981, when she made a memory quilt from swatches of handmade clothing scraps. The center squares were hand embroidered with memories of her life. She hangs onto this quilt as a reminder of where she began. After her daughter was born, Jamie began making quilts for herself and as gifts for family, friends, teachers, and school auctions—and she has never used a pattern. Her personal quest is to not follow the crowd, but to make a difference with her art.

In 2002, Jamie founded a small quilting group, the Cut Loose Quilters of Orange. Her art quilt group meets once a month to share works in progress, do critiques as needed, and provide support for one another.

Jamie belongs to a number of quilt associations, including QuiltArt, a world-wide online group for art quilters, Quilts on the Wall, and Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA). She is a firm believer in the good that comes from belonging to art groups and associations.

Her work can be found in quilt shows, including the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas, as well as in galleries, private collections, and public buildings. She has been published in two books, Creative Quilting: The Journal Quilt Project and I Remember Mama, in addition to various other publications including Quilting Arts Magazine.
