Working in her mother’s family business as a young child, Candace remembers taking every class that was taught in her mother’s store. Perhaps it was her experience in making artificial flowers that blossomed into her love for nature, plants, and herbs. In the 1980s, Candace opened her own retail gift store, where her creative expertise expanded into imaginative window displays and stunning interior store displays. In the mid-1990s, Candace relocated her family to a seven-acre herb farm and opened her herbal and garden sanctuary to the public for educational tours and herbal classes. Students learned how to press and preserve flowers, and make sachets and aromatherapy potpourri, herbal vinegars, soap, paper, aromatherapy, and more. This garden sanctuary provided Candace with the forum to share her gift for helping others recognize their life options. As a life counselor, Candace taught others how to create the atmosphere of sanctuary in their lives and homes. In 2004, Candace opened her newest store, Wye River Design, a contemporary design studio in Grasonville, Maryland, where visitors can stop by and create Candace’s project of the week.
